"Love Story" and "Peyton Place" star Ryan O'Neal has died.
"Yes my father passed away today," Ryan's son Patrick O'Neal told Fox News Digital, adding he "wrote a tribute to my dad from the heart."
Patrick took to Instagram Friday, writing, "So this is the toughest thing I’ve ever had to say but here we go. My dad passed away peacefully today, with his loving team by his side supporting him and loving him as he would us."
O'Neal, 82, was also known for being Farrah Fawcett's life partner from 1979 to 1997, before they reconnected between 2001 and 2009, when she died.

"Ryan never bragged, but he has bragging rights in Heaven. Especially when it comes to Farrah. Everyone had the poster, he had the real McCoy. And now they meet again," Patrick said.
No cause of death was given. In 2012, O’Neal was diagnosed with prostate cancer, a decade after he was first diagnosed with chronic leukemia.
In the '70s, O'Neal was among the biggest movie stars in the world, starring in "Paper Moon," "What's Up, Doc?" and "Barry Lyndon." O’Neal maintained a steady television acting career into 2010, appearing for stints on "Bones" and "Desperate Housewives," but his longtime relationship with Fawcett and his tumultuous family life kept him in the news.

In 1973, Ryan starred alongside daughter Tatum O'Neal, who was 9 at the time, in "Paper Moon." Tatum and her father had a volatile relationship since her childhood.
"I feel great sorrow with my father's passing," Tatum told People magazine. "He meant the world to me. I loved him very much and know he loved me too. I'll miss him forever. and I feel very lucky that we ended on such good terms."
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in July, Tatum O’Neal opened up about her recent journey reconnecting with her dad. Speaking before their reunion, Tatum told the outlet, "I think he’s gotten a little bit better in his life. I mean, he’s an amazing man, my dad, and I miss him terribly."

"He loved me, but then hated me because I won the Academy Award," O’Neal told the outlet about her relationship with her father.

Ryan admitted it was an issue in a 2009 interview with Vanity Fair, saying, "Everybody hated everybody because of that Academy Award."
O'Neal had his own best actor Oscar nomination for the 1970 drama "Love Story," co-starring Ali MacGraw, about a young couple who fall in love, marry and discover she is dying of cancer.
Two years later, O'Neal starred as Bogdanovich opposite Barbra Streisand in the 1972 comedy "What's Up, Doc?"
Streisand took to Instagram following the news of O'Neal's death.
"So sad to hear the news of Ryan O’Neal’s passing," she wrote. "We made two films together, What’s Up, Doc? and The Main Event. He was funny and charming, and he will be remembered."

Ryan is survived by his four children and five grandchildren.
